Antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement Enamel Locket w/ Daguerreotype Portrait
This exquisite Victorian Aesthetic Movement locket is a captivating piece from the mid-1800s to mid-1900s. Unmarked, it weighs approximately 4.6 grams and measures about 1″ x 5/8″. The hinged locket opens to reveal a picture compartment housing a daguerreotype measuring about 3/4″ x 7/16″. The daguerreotype features an older gentleman with a full bushy beard, encased in glass and secured by a metal oval ring. A loose ornate cover of similar size is included, which appears to have been the original back. The front of the locket is adorned with intricate Aesthetic Movement designs and features delicate “taille d’épargne” enamel work in light and dark blue, black, white, and orange. While it has been worn and shows signs of its age, this locket remains a stunning example of Victorian craftsmanship.
