Antique Victorian Gilded Shell Cameo Brooch, 1860s Lady Portrait
This exquisite antique Victorian gilt frame carved shell cameo pin/brooch dates back to the 1860s. The unmarked piece weighs approximately 9.7 grams and measures about 1 3/4″ x 1 1/2″. A classic gold gilded finish with twisted wire beautifully surrounds a bezel-set carved cameo. The cameo itself, measuring approximately 1 1/2″ x 1 1/4″ x 1mm thick, features delicate detail depicting a lady in a full skirt dress amidst houses and landscaping. The pin is secured by a barrel with C clasp and a straight pin that extends about 1/4″ beyond the edge of the brooch. This original pin, while slightly loose in the barrel, is typical for the time period. The gilt finish shows signs of wear consistent with its age, adding to its historical charm. This remarkable piece is easily over 150 years old.
